20th Annual Film & Screenplay Submissions

The New Hampshire Film Festival is an annual fall event located in Portsmouth, NH that unites professional filmmakers, screenwriters, and film industry experts with film lovers.  Drawing more than 10,000 attendees annually, NHFF is the region’s premier film festival and is an integral resource for local and national industry professionals who return each year.

Recipients of the New Hampshire Film Festival’s qualifying awards will be eligible for consideration in the Animated Short and Live Action Short Film category of the Academy Awards® without the standard theatrical run. Provided the film otherwise complies with the Academy rules.

 

 

NHFF provides an opportunity for filmmakers to premiere their feature film, short, or episodic project in front of press, industry, and smart, enthusiastic audiences.

Mark your calendars – submission deadlines are:

  • Early Bird Deadline: May 15, 2020
  • Official Deadline: June 15, 2021
  • Late Entry Deadline: July 15, 2021
  • Extended Deadline: April 1, 2022* (formerly September 1, 2021)

Festival Awards

Get your film in front of a prestigious jury and audience comprised of top industry executives, members of the media, award-winning filmmakers, and potential investors for a chance to walk away with a much-sought-after festival award and a prized private meeting with distributors face-to-face.  Some of our past jury members have included representatives from:

At The Festival

When you attend NHFF as a Filmmaker, you are able to meet fellow filmmakers from around the world, network with industry leaders, and grow as a filmmaker.

Submission Requirements, Deadlines & Categories

All films and screenplays MUST be submitted through FilmFreeway.

  • Mark your calendars – submission deadlines are:
  • Early Bird Deadline: May 15, 2020
  • Official Deadline: June 15, 2021
  • Late Entry Deadline: July 15, 2021
  • Extended Deadline: TBD 2022 (formerly September 1, 2021)
All films (national and international) may be submitted in only one category:
  • Feature – any narrative film over 30 minutes in length.
  • Short – any narrative short film under 30 minutes.
  • Documentary – documentary of any length.
  • Animation – any form of animation, any length.
  • Student – any form of student film of all genres and lengths
  • Screenplay – feature length only
