The Move from Making Shorts to Features (and Sometimes Back Again)

There are a lot of parallels between making a 10-minute short film and a 100-minute feature film, and there are infinitely more differences.  We invite you to join an enlightening discussion with a handful of talented filmmakers on the challenges and opportunities of making the leap from shorts to features (and sometimes back again).

Hear behind-the-scenes stories and invaluable advice from those who have walked the walk about their inspiration and timing, lessons and pitfalls, risks and rewards, and everything in between.  Whether you’re a short filmmaker thinking about a feature, a feature filmmaker thinking about a short, someone aspiring to either, or a cinephile curious about the transition between formats, we encourage you to attend.

Led by award-winning short filmmaker and distinguished film lecturer/professor JEFF STERN with featured guests:

  • OSCAR BOYSON – Writer/Director, 2025 NHFF Narrative Feature Our Hero, Balthazar
  • ALEX MALLIS – Co-Writer/Co-Director, 2025 NHFF Narrative Feature The Travel Companion
  • ALEX SARRIGEORGIOU – Writer/Producer/Actress, 2025 NHFF Narrative Feature In Transit
  • NATHAN TRUESDELL – Co-Writer/Director, 2025 NHFF Live Action Short Mystery Seeds
