Kelly, a budding novelist, Jeff, her film director husband, and their young son live a peaceful existence in Chicago. When Jeff's irresponsible sister Jenny comes to live with them, things start to change. Jenny begins a rocky relationship, and she and a friend, Carson, instigate an change in Kelly's life.
