Young Filmmakers Workshop – Are You Registered Yet?

Calling all high school students ages 14-18! now is your time to shine – at the Young Filmmakers Workshop for the 2016 New Hampshire Film Festival!

The Young Filmmakers Workshop is a unique opportunity students to shoot and screen their own films at the New Hampshire Film Festival. During the festival, they will work with communications media specialist and local filmmaker John Herman.

Herman’s talk “Arts Co-Innovation through Social Media” was featured at TEDx Amoskeag Millyard and he went on to host TEDx Piscataqua River. He has worked in broadcast media, written and filmed short stories and documentaries and continues to write short stories and novels – and that is only a taste of all that he’s done. He is a strong advocate for outlets and opportunity for other artists in New Hampshire. As president of the NH Writers’ Project Board of Trustees, he petitioned for and oversaw the NH Writer’s Week. If that’s not enough, he also teaches high school English and the NHFF is thrilled to have him on board again this year for the Young Filmmakers Workshop.

So what exactly is the Young Filmmakers Workshop?

The workshop begins Friday evening at the opening ceremony – sorry Young Filmmakers, you still get to go to school on Thursday and Friday.

Friday: 6:30pm to 8:30pm
Saturday: 9am to 8:30pm
Sunday: 9am to 7:30pm
*Times are approximate and are subject to change.

To kick off the workshop, students get to meet with industry professionals for screenings and private Q&A sessions. This introduction will help answer any questions they have and give them inspiration and tools to move into the next stage – writing their screenplay. Once their screenplays are written, they will shoot and edit their films in time for their debut on Sunday at the Closing Ceremonies!

The Young Filmmakers Workshop gives students interested in writing screenplays or producing films access to talented and successful filmmakers and producers that can help to expand their knowledge of the field. Countless program alumni have gone on to studying film in college and now have successful film industry careers.

If you know someone who would love to join us this year for the Young Filmmakers Workshop, register today (space is limited!)!
