NHFF 2012 Screenplay Industry Judge, Joyce Maynard, Returns to Portsmouth

Portsmouth, NH | On August 20th, Joyce Maynard, the New York Times bestselling author of Labor Day and The Good Daughters returns home to launch After Her, her stunningly written novel of family, friendship, and suspense.  Maynard will present at NHFF venue partner The Music Hall Loft, as part of the “Writers in the Loft” series.

The 2012 New Hampshire Film Festival brought Maynard to Portsmouth as the Grand Prize Industry Judge, selecting the winner of the screenplay competition from the finalists.  Her participation in the festival involved a reading of Labor Day at RiverRun Bookstore, an educational panel on novel to film adaptations, and a presentation of the Best Screenplay Award at closing night ceremonies in addition to her part in the selection process.

Maynard is a native of Durham, NH, and has been a reporter for the New York Times, a magazine journalist, a radio commentator, and a syndicated columnist, as well as the author of six novels. Her bestselling memoir, At Home in the World, has been translated into 11 languages. Labor Day has been adapted for film by Academy Award-nominated director Jason Reitman and is set in New Hampshire. The film stars Kate Winslet, Josh Brolin, and Tobey Maguire. It is set to release on Christmas Day, making it the subject of early awards talk.
