Woodshock: Fashion Designers Kate and Laura Mulleavy’s Feature Film Debut
The New Hampshire Film Festival was proud to welcome Woodshock to the Portsmouth Music Hall Saturday afternoon.
The feature film debut of fashion designers Kate and Laura Mulleavy (Rodarte), Woodshock is a hypnotic exploration of isolation, paranoia, and grief that exists in a dream-world all its own. Produced by K.K. Barrett, Michael Costingan, Ken Kao and Ben Leclair, Woodshock was a star-packed film starring Kirsten Dunst, Joe Cole, and Pilou Asbæk.
Dunst stars as Theresa, a haunted young woman spiraling in the wake of losing her mother torn between her fractured emotional state and the reality-altering effects of a potent cannabinoid drug. Medical marijuana is a constant throughout this film as Theresa works in a dispensary. When a critical mistake is made, the film comes to a climactic jolt of violent action. Woodshock transcends genre to become a singularly thrilling cinematic experience.
The post viewing Q&A was attended by line producer Chris Stinson and stunt performer Amy Greene. Questions ranged from stunt details to the future of the Red Wood Forest due to the Trump Plan. With the Red Wood’s playing a large part in the movie, concern was raised over the Trump administration’s goal to reboot extraction industries such as mining and logging. Both Greene and Stinson stated their honor to shoot in such a majestic location.
